BUENOS AIRES

Buenos AiresBuenos Aires is the capital and largest city in Argentina. It is located on the western shore of the estuary of the Río de la Plata, on the southeastern coast of the South American continent. Its port is situated along the River Plate and it is surrounded by the “Greater Buenos Aires”, where most of the country’s thirteen million population has settled.

Buenos Aires has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons with an annual average temperature of 63.9 °F. The warmest month is January and the winter season runs between June and September.

This cosmopolitan city is characterized as having a strong European influence, which is reflected in the city’s architectural design and also in the composition of the population of Spanish or Italian descent.

The typical Buenos Aires’ neighborhoods show the marks left by the immigrants, including La Boca, situated on the banks of the Riachuelo, it maintains its Italian immigrant influence intact: “Caminito”, “La Vuelta de Rocha”, its vividly painted houses and the landscapes immortalized by Benito Quinquela Martín in his paintings.

The Buenos Airescity has copied characteristics from both Madrid and Paris, which sometimes seem better than the originals. However, it also has its own heritage, adding to the mix some sultry tangos, ubiquitous "colectivos", quaint cafés and most of all, the flair of its residents, the proud "porteños".

Buenos Aires’ appeal lies in having everything: culture, architecture, art, music, and non stop nightlife. The city has intense cultural and nightlife, and is a large commercial and business centre.

Nightfall is the Porteños’ favorite time to enjoy their city and interact with each other in a myriad of restaurants, coffee houses; discotheques and bars open until the early hours.

Together, it all combines to form a fascinating city, worth discovering block by block.
