MEDICAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

 

MEDICAL INTENRSHIP BRAZIL
This is a rigorous 6-week specialized study abroad program specialized in one of the following topic:

(i) Plastic Surgery (São Paulo, BRAZIL)
(ii) Tropical Diseases (Maceió, BRAZIL)

The program includes seminars, language training, supervised research and field excursions that have been developed in conjunction with the local health ministry.
 
Structure of the Program
The program has two phases:

a. Portuguese language studies (Bahia do Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Maceio , São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro)
                      b. 2-weeks supervised hospital internship. (Maceio , São Paulo)
 
I Part - Course
The 4-week Portuguese language course is designed to help improve your effectiveness as a Portuguese Speaker, so you can be more efficient in your work post.  With a higher level of Portuguese, you can gain much more from the experience.  The Portuguese language classes has a medical vocabulary emphasis on either Tropical Diseases or Plastic Surgery.

Language Skill exam fee: $150 USD (For non-beginners, who skip the language course phase)

Location: Maceió, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro

 
II Part: Medical Internship Placement Period

This program provides participants with critical information for understanding the reality of Brazilian Medicine. It is geared towards medical or pre-med students

During placement, students see diseases being treated in the real life practice of medicine in Latin America, and the
reality of Brazilian medical care, by accompanying doctors to their clinics and hospitals.

The time spent in the placement will be purely for observation; students will not participate in any medical
procedures.

Tropical Disease Program

The material includes subjects such as:
                                  • General medical vocabulary
                                  • Doctor-Patient relationship
                                  • Lectures on Tropical diseases (Dengue, Febre Amarela ("Yellow Fever"), Malaria)
                                  • Human Body (in General, Head and Mouth, Intern Organs)

                Practicum:
                                  • students take part as student-observers
                                  • opportunity to meet and interact with local university students doig rotation

Plastic Surgery Program
               Theoretical Program Topics:
                                   • Plastic Surgery global vision
                                   • Medical Training in Brazil / Foreign Diploma Validation
                                   • Wound healing / Flaps and grafts: principles
                                   • Burns / Cutaneous tumors
                                   • Plastic Surgery in Trauma Patients
                                   • Specialties: Hand Surgery/Lower limb reconstruction
                                   • Specialties: Craniofacial surgery/ Orbitopalpebral reconstruction
                                   • Esthetic Surgery
                Practicum:
                                   • Patient rounds and surgery observation
                                   • Visit to Plastic Surgery Clinic

Hospital internships are held at:
         - the Hospital das Clinicas,
         - Hospital Sirio Libanes
         - the Plastic Surgery Clinic
         - Hospital Universitário

Program Fee: $7060 USD
