PORTO
Porto
is one of Portugal's most beautiful cities, and the country's second-largest
metropolis. A UNESCO-recognized "city of world heritage" and the European
Capital of Culture 2001, Porto is the perfect setting for a language course.
It is full of historical monuments and places of interest ranging from the
12th century cathedral to the ultra modern museum of contemporary art - the
most visited museum in Portugal. But its true glory lies in the incidental
details: the old fashioned street cafés, the markets, the bookshops and
restaurants tucked away down side streets, the simple pleasures of a tram
journey along the river front or of spending the afternoon by the beach:
Porto is a marvelous city to explore. The climate in Porto is Mediterranean, which means warm, dry summers with a average temperature between 15 - 25 °C and mild but rainy winters with temperatures between 5 - 15 °C. |

Now
that you have enjoyed the wine, let's explore the city! Enjoy the evening out with friends. There are many beachside restaurants that feature the best in northern Portuguese cuisine and excellent wines. Plus, you can listen to some poetry in a local cafe, or take in some jazz with drinks on the other side of the river. The historic neighborhood, the Ribeira, has several taverns along its steep streets that are great hangouts, while the city's industrial zone houses many of Porto's discos and clubs where you can party into the night. |

The city has excellent shopping facilities, restaurants, golf courses and a fabulous nightlife catering for all tastes. It is a wealthy industrial city and home to many multinational companies with an award winning modern airport offering daily flights to a host of international destinations. The people of Porto are proud of their reputation for hard work. But it is their hospitality and good nature that visitors will notice most. | |||||
