Tourist visas |
Citizens of the following countries, with an ordinary
passport, valid for a minimum of 6 months, who wish to stay in Italy for
tourist or business purposes for up to 90 days DO NOT NEED A VISA: ANDORRA, ARGENTINA, AUSTRALIA, BOLIVIA, BRAZIL, BRUNEI, CANADA, SOUTH KOREA, COSTA RICA, CHILE, ECUADOR, EL SALVADOR, GUATEMALA, HOLY SEE, HONDURAS, ICELAND, ISRAEL, JAPAN, LIECHTENSTEIN, MALAYSIA, MEXICO, MONACO, NICARAGUA, NORWAY, NEW ZEALAND, PANAMA, PARAGUAY, REPUBLIC OF CROATIA, SAN MARINO, SEYCHELLES, SINGAPORE, SWITZERLAND, URUGUAY, USA, VENEZUELA, HONG KONG (SAR), MACAO (EAR) and citizens of THE EUROPEAN UNION. Student Visas |
A student visa is mandatory for any foreigner wishing
to study in Italy for 3 months or longer. The visa is processed in your
country of residence prior to your departure. You cannot get the visa in
Italy, and you cannot have it sent to you. The visa is affixed in your
passport before you depart your country, and must be presented at the border
Officials upon your entry into Italy. All student visas are valid for a period of 90 days from your entry date into Italy, during which time the student must contact the local authorities to acquire a student residency card. This "Italy Student Residency Card" is then valid for as long as the student is enrolled in the program in Italy. Please allow sufficient time before departure date for visa to be process. Contact Italian Consulate on this matter. |
AIRPORTS |
Florence Amerigo Vespucci Airport (FLR): is located about 10 km (6 miles) from Florence and 80km from Pisa, within the territory of Sesto Fiorentino. It is a small airport, with a single runway. Frequent bus service from the airport connects with Florence´s centre. A flight from North America, generally, connects through Rome or Milan. |
Milan Linate Airport (LIN) is located about 7 Kilometers (4 miles) east of Milan, and the Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) is located about 45 Kilometers (29 miles) north west from city. Buses run from the terminals to Milan’s city centre. There is also bus service connecting Linate airport to Malpensa. Trains run from Terminal 1 of Malpensa Aiport to Milano Cadorna Station every 30 minutes during weekdays. From Linate aiport, bus service connects to the San Babila metro Station as well as, the Milan Central Station. |
Pisa-San Giusto "Galileo Galilei" Airport (PSA) is located 12km (7 miles) south of Pisa. There is bus service (Bus #3) departing just outside the arrivals and departure hall with various bust stops in the city centre It is consider Florence's second airport at 97km (60 miles) west of Florence. |
Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) is called both Leonardo da Vinci and Fiumicino. It is located on the Via Appia Nuova, 15 km from the centre of Rome and Rome Ciampino Airport (CIA) is situated 32km from the city, and the drive is about 45 minutes to Rome´s Centre. Buses run every 30 minutes from Fiumicino and every 15 minutes from Ciampino to the nearby Anagnina Metro Station with lines to the centre. Or, from Fiumicino take the Leonardo Express train service, directly to Rome's main railway station (Stazione Termini).The service runs every 30 minutes, between 6.30am and 11.30pm. Taxis are available at the airports. The ride from Ciampino to the Rome's centre may cost between 30-40 €. |
Siena's Ampugnano airport (SAY) is located 9 km from the city of Siena. Presently, there are connections from Olbia, Vienna and Munich. A shuttle service connects the airport to the Piazza Gramsci Train Station. Most travellers to Siena arrive at Florence or Pisa airport. Siena-Ampugnano Airport is a small military airstrip in the Tuscan countryside, with less than one flight per day. |

All driving licences issued by EU countries
are recognized in Italy. Visitors with a non-EU licence are technically
required to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) to accompany their
national licence. Speed limits on Italy's roads are 130 km/h (81 m.p.h.) on the Autostrade or Highway, 110 km/h (69 m.p.h.) for all cars and motor vehicles up to 1099 cc. on the Autostrade, 90 km/h (56 m.p.h.) on main state roads and rural roads, and 50 km/h (30 m.p.h) in cities and towns |

Train travel is a great way to enter Italy from within Europe, and is also an inexpensive way for travels among cities in all the region of Italy. The railway network, operated by the state-owned Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), spans over 16,000 km with High-speed train (FS Eurostar trains) connections available among major cities. | |

The Roma-Termini Station is located conveniently for connections to other Italian cities. For Tiburtina station, the train runs every 20 minutes between the hours of 5:35am to 9:35pm. There are also trains from the airport to Trastevere, and Ostiense. | |

TAXIS in ITALY |
The official taxis in Italy are white and identified by
the ‘Taxi’ sign on the roof. Before departure be sure the meter is working,
and check the approximate price of the journey before boarding. The meter
should be started once you have entered the cab, unless you telephoned the
taxi, then the meter starts running as soon as the taxi is called. There are
extra charges for baggage. Taxi fares may often increase on weekends and holidays, as well as, after 6 pm on weekdays. |

There are several taxi points in the city, including at the Duomo, in Piazza della Repubblica and at the Santa Maria Novella train station. |

From Rome Fiumicino Airport,the Taxi ride to the center takes about 45 min. |

SHIPS |
Ferries connects the Italian mainland with many of its
islands (Sicily, Palermo, Sardinia) and several other countries, such as,
Greece, Turkey, Tunisia, Malta, Albania, Croatia and Spain. Not all ferries
transport cars, if you plan on bringing one, please check ahead of time. Cruise lines include Italian ports, such as, Rome and Civitavecchia, on their Mediterranean. |
